Today BMW introduced the new BMW 5 Series. Their successful formula continues. With over 7.6 million 5 Series sold worldwide since 1972, the 5 Series has been given a little refresh. The all new BMW 5 Series has been given a refresh. Now weighing 137 lbs less than before, BMW used high-strength steel, aluminium and magnesium. Packed with the "Integral Active Steering", Driver and Parking Assistance System, the 5 Series is once more classified as a true executive sport sedan. Featuring a new iDrive (OS in BMW's), Gesture Control (which enables you to change songs and switch menus with hand gestures), the 5 Series is one of the most innovative of its kind, including assistance to the driver and pretty much on its way to be a semi-automated vehicle. It will be available in dealerships near February 2017, and pricing will be announced probably in January. BMW wants the 5 Series to remain a midsize sport sedan. It is slightly larger than the previous car. LED adaptive headlights are now standard, you won't need to get some high end trim levels, they decided to put them standard. There will now be two exhaust tailpipes but depending on the engine and trim levels, the tailpipes will either be circular for four-cylinder engines or trapezoidal for six-cylinder engines and mostly cars with the M sport trim level. Pretty much like the current 7 Series model, the 5 Series will now have automatic moveable slats that are located behind the vertical parts of the grill. This basically allows the air to cool the engine down. Too make it simple, it opens when the engine needs more air (especially when the engine is warm) and the little doors will close when the engine is cold or even on the highway, improving the aerodynamic efficiency. Here, the left picture shows the slats opened and the right one shows them when they are closed. Good news for car enthusiasts, the "Sport Design" is now standard which means all 5 Series models will come standard with 18-inch black light-alloy wheels. Furthermore, chrome will be surrounding the windows, front and rear bumper will look more aggressive on standard levels (but let's face it an "entry level" BMW 5 Series all alone comes with pretty much everything). Inside the car, the seats will have adjustable side bolsters and an anthracite headliner (fancy word to say the roof material will be anthracite) will make the driver and passenger feel more like they are in a sports car. On the other hand, the "M Sport Package" will include the M aero kit (front and rear bumper as well as side skirts), a lowered suspension a 19-inch wheels. Fun fact, BMW increased their trunk capacity and they had to mention that the new 5 Series is "capable of carrying 4 golf bags", which is very important for a rich BMW buyer that'll play golf all day long! The car will also be equipped with storage compartments and cup holders that will have the ability of being a wireless charging port. But wait, there's more! The seats are all fully adjustable, including side bolsters, as well as some ventilation and massage function that are part of the seats... available in the driver's seat! There will be eight different massage programs and they will offer up to three different intensity modes. It will relax the muscles in the back while driving. This will use around 20 air chambers that will be randomly (well in order depending on the massage selection) inflated and deflated. If the driver (also the passenger) feels the temperature of his seat isn't good, he can activate seat ventilation that will shoot air to the desired temperature. As part of the seats (backseats this time), the optional "Rear-Seat Entertainment Professional" will offer two independent 10.2-inch screens that will include a DVD player that also supports BluRay discs, an HDMI connection, USB port for MP3 players, game consoles, controllers or headphones. The new BMW 5 Series will feature remote controlled parking... Yes, you read that correctly, remote controlled parking. Basically, if the parking spot isn't wide enough, you can leave the car in front of the parking spot, get out of the car and use the remote to basically remotely park the car. Click here to see it in action in a BMW 7 Series. Speaking of remote controls, the driver can start or stop the engine with this control. Heating and or air conditioning can also be controlled via this remote; so the car will be warm or cold when about to drive. Another very interesting feature is called 3D Surround View. It basically monitors their BMW at any time and the system can show a bird's-eye view of the car and also a 3D image of the area that surrounds the vehicle where any obstacle other vehicles or pedestrians can be identified. This newer BMW 5 Series will truly be a hit for BMW's and other car manufacturers will probably get their inspirations from this 5 Series to provide their cars more technology than ever.
