Honda unveiled the all-new Odyssey. This minivan is part of the fifth generation of the Odyssey.
First, to set things off, Honda received, not later than this morning, an award mentioning the the 2017 Ridgeline as the North American Truck of the Year. Honda also reached a global milestone as they sold and produced over 100 million automobiles. The company is really important in North America, in fact Honda mentions 96% of the vehicles sold in the USA during the past year were built in America.
Let's get back to the Odyssey. In this all-new version of the Odyssey, some new features will be provided, such as 4G LTE Wifi, CabinControl an app that basically controls the vehicle's infotainment systems, Magic Slide for the second-row seats (slides left and right, front and back to make access to the third-row easier), and a 10-speed automatic transmission. All the driving aids will be offered standard on EX and above trims, which represents a huge part of the market, according to Honda, over 95% of their sales are the EX trim level or higher.
Honda based their minivan on the needs of a family. According to their research, the third-row users are usually the older kids in the family, and they felt left out. Turns out it's hard to communicate in the car when the third row is so far from the first one. Honda kept in mind communication was an important factor. Therefore, they improved the aerodynamics of the minivan, added 55% more seals, inculded an "Active Noise Control", triple door seals, accoustic spray foam and accoustic glass windshield and side glass. These are all contributing to lower the road noise and make the cabin more quiet.
In terms of technology, it has an HDMI port, two USB ports. CabinWatch will enable parents to keep an eye on their children right from the driver's seat; from a push of a button, a live image of their kids is displayed on the centre console screen day and night. This image comes from a ceiling camera and this camera aslo has a night vision. With CabinTalk, talking to the kids is even easier, then again, from the push of a button, you speak through a microphone and your voice comes out of the speakers. In case the children are busy with their wireless Odyssey headphones, the speaking system can also be heard in those headphones. CabinControl allows people in the back to control their own heating and cooling temperature all from a smartphone. The Odyssey will also feature SocialPlaylist, where up to eight passengers can upload a song in order to put it in queue to hear it later. Honda calls it a family jukebox! Kids can now even track the minivan, on a road trip, this app allows the kids to now "are we there yet?" and they will know how many kilometers are left to the trip automatically from their screen in the back. That's a whole lot of new features for a minivan!
