Ford has plans for 13 electrified vehicles until 2022 - including a hybrid Mustang and F-1501/9/2017 During their North American International Auto Show press conference this morning at the Joe Louis Arena this morning, Ford stated their plans to introduce 13 new electrified vehicles, which includes plans for a hybrid Mustang . And that's not even the biggest news of the day from Ford. Also part of their 13-car plan is a fully autonomous vehicle, which will include no controls. That's right, no brakes or accelerator pedal, no steering wheel or anything of the sort. They also want to release hybrid police vehicles, that will remain as powerful as they are right now, which means keeping their pursuit rating. Ford also wants to release a fully electric SUV. During the press conference, hosted by Bill Ford himself as well as the CEO of Ford Motor Company Mark Fields, the Michigan car manufacturer spoke about the 'City of Tomorrow' and will be hosting a symposium on the matter. Since acquiring van sharing startup Chariot in September, they already expanded the service to more cities and more vehicles, which are Ford Transit vans, incidentally. This is all part of their company vision, to be an 'auto and mobility company'. Ford wants to make tomorrow's city centre less gridlocked than it is now by using services like ridesharing and autonomous vehicles. Mark Fields then had a chat with former New York mayor and Bloomberg Philantropies Mike Bloomberg about this vision. Bill Ford also said that he doesn't the fun automobile to disappear, although it does seem difficult to see where the 'fun automobile' would have a place in Ford's vision of tomorrow. Ford will be hosting a TED talk today, as well as talks with the New York Times and VICE on the matter. |
