Ford announced an all-new EcoBoost engine and a 10-speed transmission for the F-150. Improving the truck's fuel economy is the main goal here. With over one million EcoBoost F-150 trucks sold in the United States since 2011, Ford developed a new 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine joined to a 10-speed automatic transmission that will improve the 2017 Ford F-150's fuel economy with 2 mpg for the 4x4 model. This second generation engine will produce 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque which is 10 more horsepower and 50 lb.-ft. of torque over the original engine. The 10-speed automatic transmission increases hauling and towing weight and it improves performance and efficiency. The 10-speed auto transmission will be available for the 2017 F-150 model for both 4x2 and 4x4. A smarter shift logic will help drivers to tow more with more confidence with the new "Tow/Haul" mode. Instead of the classic cast-iron components, Ford used advanced materials as well as alloys. They've performed some weight reduction wherever they could simply to increase performance and fuel economy. Now with an average of 20 mpg for the 4x4 truck and an average of 21 mpg for the 4x2, the Ford F-150 is slightly better than competition, averaging one more mpg than the Chevy Sliverado/GMC Sierra. On the other hand, the Dodge Ram is a little behind, with an overall fuel economy of 19 mpg. But Ford fans, Dodge fans and GM fans will remain fans of their own brands, I'm pretty sure they won't change their truck fleets just because the Ford does one more mpg! Source: Media.Ford.com
